The Government Accountability Office appointed 15 executives to the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee Aug. 3.
The 25-member committee was established under the 21st Century Cures Act, which former President Barack Obama signed into law in December 2016. The committee of experts — appointed by Congressional leaders, the HHS secretary and the comptroller general of the Government Accountability Office — will provide policy recommendations to the ONC.
Here are the 15 committee members appointed by GAO.
One-year term members
1. Michael Adcock, executive director of the Center for Telehealth at the Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center
2. Terrence O'Malley, MD, geriatrician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center North End, both based in Boston
3. Carolyn Petersen, senior editor of Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic’s health information website
4. Sasha TerMaat, a director of Verona, Wis.-based Epic
5. Andrew Truscott, a managing director of Health and Public Service at the Houston location of Dublin, Ireland-based Accenture
Two-year term members
1. John Kanksy, president and CEO of the Indianapolis-based Indiana Health Information Exchange
2. Denni McColm, CIO of Bolivar, Mo.-based Citizens Memorial Healthcare.
3. Brett Oliver, MD, chief medical information officer of Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health
4. Raj Ratwani, PhD, acting center director and scientific director of the National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare within Columbia, Md.-based MedStar Health.
5. Denise Webb, CIO of Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System and CEO of Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Information Services.
Three-year term members
1. Christina Caraballo, director of healthcare transformation at Rockville, Md.-based Get Real Health.
2. Tina Esposito, vice president of information and technology innovation at Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care.
3. Brad Gescheider, senior director of provider and payer solutions of Cambridge, Mass.-based PatientsLikeMe.
4. Kensaku Kawamoto, MD, PhD, associate chief medical information officer of Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health.
5. Sheryl Turney, senior director of all-payer claims database analytics and data policy and administration at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, residing in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
