Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, plans to announce her Republican presidential campaign on May 4 online, without pomp and splendor, according to The Wall Street Journal. She will hold a conference call for national press.

Rather than hosting a live event for her campaign, Ms. Fiorina plans to speak at the TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2015 conference on May 5 and hold events to discuss her new book, "Rising to the Challenge: My Leadership Journey." She won't make an early-state stop until May 7, when she plans to appear in Iowa, according to the report.

Ms. Fiorina's low-key announcement stands out among the other declared GOP candidates, Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida, who all held public events to announce their campaigns. However, Ms. Fiorina's announcement could be drowned out by the events other GOP candidates Ben Carson, MD, and former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas plan to hold that week, on May 4 and May 5 respectively.

Ms. Fiorina's announcement style is much more akin to Hillary Clinton's online video announcement. She has told activists she believes her nomination would weaken the historical significance of Ms. Clinton's run, according to the report.
