Daphne Bascom, MD, PhD, joined YMCA of Greater Kansas City (Mo.) after leaving her position as vice president and CMO of physician alignment at Cerner, reports The Kansas City Star.
Dr. Bascom will serve as senior vice president of community integrated health — a new position at the organization. She is also the first on-staff physician in YMCA memory, according to The Kansas City Star. Her goal is to apply what she learned about population health management at Cerner to improve rates of obesity, diabetes and other chronic conditions in the community.
"In my stage of life, heading into retirement, it probably was not the move my financial planner would have me make," Dr. Bascom said of her decision to join the YMCA, according to The Kansas City Star. "But it was an opportune time, and I think there's a lot of great things I can do at the Y."
