Federal spending on health IT is expected to see strong growth through 2021, according to a Deltek report.

Here are five trends in the federal health IT market:

1.  The federal government's demand for vendor-furnished health IT products and services was estimated to be $6 billion in fiscal year 2016.

2. The government's demand is expected to reach $6.4 billion in 2021.

3. The demand will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 1.4 percent over the next five years.

4. Top federal health IT areas of focus include: data standardization, data integrity, information exchange, interoperability, analytics, storage, infrastructure modernization, legacy system modernization, cloud adoption, telehealth and mobile applications.

5. Agency investments in EHRs and continued investments to improve population health will spur the market's growth.
