Federal CONNECT Project Handed Off to Open-Source Developer

Staff -

Oversight of the federal CONNECT project, comprised of several agencies working to achieve national health IT interoperability, has been given to nonprofit open-source developer Open Health Tools.

Although the Federal Health Architecture, part of HHS, is turning over responsibility of CONNECT to OHT, the agency will continue to be involved in the standards development project. "FHA is very excited about this relationship with OHT," said FHA Director Gail Kalbfleisch in a news release. "Moving CONNECT to the open source community for the management of its code and governance has been a part of the program's timeline since the beginning. It is an accomplishment to reach this stage and know that a thriving community like OHT is stepping up to take CONNECT to new heights."
