The FDA has posted open-source computer code and a technical roadmap online to allow clinical researchers and software developers to customize the agency's data collection app, dubbed MyStudies.
The FDA developed the MyStudies app to enable patients participating in clinical trials and observational studies to collect real-world data about their experiences, which can be linked to an EHR. With the open-source code, researchers and developers can now rebrand and customize the app for their own clinical researcher purposes.
The FDA released code for two versions of the app: one built on Apple's ResearchKit framework and another built on the open-source ResearchStack framework, which runs on Google's Android. The FDA plans to continue to release improved code for both versions of the app over the course of the next several quarters.
