FBI advises Anthem not to speak publicly about breach

Emily Rappleye -

To avoid jeopardizing the ongoing FBI investigation of its data breach, Anthem canceled its public forum at Muncie, Ind.-based Ball State University, according to The Star Press.

Personal information of approximately 80 million Anthem customers was compromised during an attack on the payer's IT system in December.

An estimated 180 BSU employees have had their identities stolen or were victims of tax refund fraud, according to the report. However, there is no evidence these cases of identity theft are connected to the Anthem cyber attack, the Indiana attorney general said.

In a statement Anthem said, "Due to the ongoing FBI investigation, we will not be able to participate in a public forum as originally envisioned. Our IT staff and many others are working closely with the FBI. Therefore, we are limited in what we can say beyond what we have shared with you previously."

Anthem has pledged to meet with BSU employees on an individual basis to answer questions and concerns, according to the report.
