Erlanger to spend $91M on Epic implementation

Staff -

Erlanger Health System, based in Chattanooga, Tenn., has signed a contract with Epic, according to a Times Free Press report.

The contract will result in a $91 million overhaul of the health system's IT system. In addition to this capital expense, the Epic system is expected to cost $97 million to operate over the next decade, according to the report.

Currently, the hospital's IT operations are a fragmented system of more than 200 interfaces. The new systems implementation will bring 100 Epic employees to the health system and generate an additional 100 new jobs.

Epic and Cerner vied for Erlanger business, but Epic won out. The selection committee voted 28 to two for Epic. Cerner's bid was more expensive, according to the report.
