Epic sued over overtime pay policies

Staff -

A number of former and current Epic Systems quality assurance workers filed a lawsuit against the health IT vendor over the company's overtime pay policies, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The class-action lawsuit claims Verona, Wis.-based Epic illegally denied overtime pay to quality assurance workers who completed computer work that did not require much computer training or programming education. The suit alleges that although trained computer analysts and software engineers are exempt from overtime pay, workers with little technical or computer background — like the ones in the lawsuit — are not.

Involved in the lawsuit are quality assurance workers who didn't receive overtime pay despite working more than 40 hours per week between Dec. 2, 2014 and the present, aside from time they spent as "team leads." Although the lawsuit does state the exact number of employees taking part in the lawsuit, it claims Epic has employed more than 1,000 individuals who may be eligible members.

Epic has not commented on the lawsuit.
