Epic, Allscripts, Cerner among most popular EHRs; Banner Health drops Epic for Cerner; athenahealth loses no clients in 2014 — 7 health IT keynotes

Here are seven recent news updates on key health IT companies.

1. Epic, Allscripts, Cerner, MEDITECH, eClinicalWorks, GE Healthcare and NextGen were all ranked among the top 10 most popular EHR products by Software Advice.

2. Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth reorganized four of its executive leaders into new roles to support its goals.

3. Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health plans to implement MEDITECH's Business and Clinical Analytics solution across its network to monitor and evaluate overall performance.

4. Cerner announced a stock repurchase program, authorizing the repurchase of up to $245 million of its common stock.

5. Mercy Family Clinic New Hampton (Iowa) plans to go live on Cerner's EHR and patient portal Sept. 21.

6. Phoenix-based Banner Health announced plans to drop Epic's EHR system at its two Tucson hospitals and will replace the system with Cerner's platform.

7. In 2014, Epic, Cerner and athenahealth were the three vendors who posted a gain in market share. Additionally, Epic and athenahealth were the only two vendors who did not lose any clients, according to a KLAS report.
