EHNAC Launches ACO, Practice Management Accreditation Programs

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission has launched new programs focusing on ensuring practice management software and accountable care organizations meet recommended standards and best practices.

The Practice Management System Accreditation Program, developed in conjunction with the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, will review and accredit vendors based on how well they meet privacy, security, operations and functional standards.

"Our accreditation program will allow vendors to demonstrate their adherence to a higher standard of quality, privacy and security, and will create a trustworthy framework with providers and their practice management system vendors," said Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC, in a news release.

The Accountable Care Organization Accreditation Program will focus on data security, approving ACO stakeholders that show a commitment to protecting patient information and whose security and privacy practices employ approved best practices. Organizations will also be measured on technical performance, business processes, resource management and other key areas. Capital Clinical Integrated Network in Washington, D.C., and HEALTHEC in Piscataway, N.J., will be the first organizations to undergo accreditation.
