Dr. Tom Price 'adamantly opposed' ACA's medical device tax

Julie Spitzer -

HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, told the Advanced Medical Technology Association he was "adamantly opposed" to the ACA's medical device tax while in Congress, suggesting the AHCA will not include a similar tax, according to sources attending the June 16 meeting and reported by The Washington Post.

More than 50 executives from AdvaMed, an advocacy group comprised of roughly 300 medical devicemakers, lobbied at the White House last week to request President Donald Trump reinstate the reauthorization user fee agreements and remove the 2.3 percent medical device tax in the Republican party's healthcare replacement law, Morning Consult reports.

Dr. Price told meeting attendees the health IT industry creates jobs and fosters innovation, reports The Washington Post. The device tax doesn't make sense and hurts innovation, he reportedly said.
