Diversity among top factors driving tech talent to new jobs: 4 things to know

When considering a new job opportunity, tech workers are increasingly drawn to companies that uphold commitment to diversity efforts in company culture and leadership, according to a recent Hired report.

For its 2020 Global Brand Health report, Hired, a tech talent job matching company surveyed more than 4,100 tech professionals about the factors that motivate them to leave their current roles and take new job opportunities.

Four things to know:

1. Sixty-four percent of tech workers said that a company's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion has a strong or very strong effect on their decision to take a job.

2. Nearly half (49 percent) of respondents said providing transparent salary data for every role to ensure equitable pay is an important thing an employer can do to support diversity, equity and inclusion.

3. Survey respondents listed the following additional ways a company can show its commitment to diversity: publishing annual diversity reports that outline the makeup of its team (25 percent), having at least one woman and one person of color in its C-suite (11 percent), having company-funded employee resource groups (11 percent) and having at least one person of color on its board (6 percent).

4. In addition to diversity, equity and inclusion, tech workers also listed compensation, the chance to learn new skills, company culture, company leadership and the opportunity to solve challenging tech problems as motivating factors to accept a job offer.
