Director of analytics tops list of top-paying AI jobs

The average salary for a director of analytics in the U.S. is nearly $141,000, according to an Indeed.com report cited by Bloomberg.

Indeed.com, a job search website, analyzed millions of U.S. job postings on its search engine from June 2015 to June 2018 for the report. Indeed.com identified titles in which more than 20 percent of online postings included "artificial intelligence" or "machine learning" in the description to determine relevant jobs, and from there derived information about the salary and location, according to Bloomberg.

Here are the 10 highest-paying AI and machine learning jobs based on average salary in the U.S., according to Indeed.com:

1. Director of analytics: $140,800

2. Principal scientist: $138,300

3. Machine learning engineer: $134,400

4. Computer vision engineer: $134,300

5. Data scientist: $130,500

6. Data engineer: $126,000

7. Algorithm engineer: $104,100

8. Computer scientist: $97,800

9. Statistician: $83,700

10. Research engineer: $71,600

Average salaries for these positions may be even higher than results found by Indeed.com, according to Bloomberg. Companies are increasingly willing to pay high salaries for AI experts, given growing demand — AI and machine learning job postings have doubled since 2015 — with a limited pool of talent.

"The lucrative salaries being offered on public platforms such as Indeed.com may pale in comparison with bigger-money AI jobs filled directly or via headhunters — jobs which can come with huge bonuses and stock options," the publication notes. Indeed.com's report also didn't account for employee bonuses, stock options or commissions.
