Digital media, telehealth biggest tech concerns among providers, survey finds

Andrea Park -

While healthcare leaders believe artificial intelligence will be the most effective technology in reducing risk, they remain wary of other advanced technologies' abilities to increase risk, according to a new report.

In its annual survey of top providers and medical societies, physician-owned medical malpractice firm The Doctors Company found that online media such as websites and social networks, and electronic patient visits are perceived as the two biggest technology risks in healthcare. Digital media was also listed as the technology with the highest risk potential in the 2018 survey.

"The concerns expressed by our nation's healthcare leaders show the growing impact of digital healthcare," said Richard Anderson, MD, chairman and CEO of The Doctors Company. "Telemedicine, retail medicine and healthcare apps are changing the way many people access healthcare. It remains to be seen how this will affect medical outcomes and malpractice litigation."
