Deloitte integrates ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect with Apple HealthKit, ResearchKit

Deloitte integrated its ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect patient engagement tool with Apple's HealthKit, CareKit and ResearchKit frameworks, the audit and consulting firm confirmed June 18.

Deloitte's goal for the integration is to support patients' connectivity to clinical research and improve adherence to treatment plans. Apple's ResearchKit, for example, is a software framework that helps medical researchers build apps to gather data for clinical research, while the company's CareKit is a software framework that helps developers build apps focused on well-being.

"Patients' expectations for more personalized services are one of the driving forces behind healthcare's overall transformation toward more patient-centric care models," Chris Zant, principal and life sciences global digital and patient engagement leader at Deloitte Consulting, said in a June 18 statement. "By integrating ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect, which supports 300,000 patients globally, with Apple's health frameworks, care coordinators can better manage their patient population by proactively engaging with their patients using their Apple devices and meeting those growing patient expectations."

Deloitte also unveiled plans to expand its Apple practice, which comprises a team of user interface and user experience developers who create healthcare-specific apps for Apple's iOS operating system.
