Amazon Web Services on Nov. 13 launched its new service AWS Data Exchange, which allows customers to search, subscribe to and use third-party data from companies including Deloitte and Change Healthcare within the cloud.

With the service, AWS customers can integrate third-party data into the workloads they are migrating to the cloud. Healthcare professionals can subscribe to aggregated data from clinical trials to advance their research activities. As qualified data providers for AWS Data Exchange, Change Healthcare and Deloitte are also integrating their services with AWS for cloud customers.

AWS Data Exchange supports Deloitte's ConvergeHealth Miner platform, which provides integrated cloud-based analytics, knowledge management and collaboration tools to life sciences and healthcare organizations.

"AWS Data Exchange is unlocking a number of data sources that have traditionally been locked in siloes spanning multiple organizations, and gives healthcare stakeholders a scalable and secure service to create new collaborative business models to reimagine how they approach research, clinical trials, pharmacovigilance, population health and reimbursement," said Brett Davis, principal at Deloitte Consulting and general manager of ConvergeHealth, according to the news release.

AWS customers can also use the AWS Data Exchange application programming interface to subscribe to Change Healthcare's services. The data analytics firm processes and anonymizes more than 14 billion healthcare transactions and $1 trillion claims each year.

As a security measure, AWS Data Exchange prohibits the sharing of personal health information and other sensitive personal data that is not already legally and publicly available, according to the news release.
