Data Breach at Kentucky's Lexington VA Medical Center Involves 1,900 Veterans' Personal Information

Staff -
A staff member at the Lexington (Ky.) VA Medical Center took home patient files, slides, images and data on his laptop without authorization, according to a LEX 18 report.

The data held approximately 1,900 veterans' personal information, including names, the last four digits of social security numbers, dates of birth and medical diagnoses. The affected veterans were notified and offered credit protection for one year.

An investigation by the hospital found the staff member failed to follow established privacy and information security requirements.
