Data Breach Affects 500 Members of Blue Cross Affiliate First Priority Life Insurance

Staff -
Reports with medical and personal information for approximately 500 First Priority Life Insurance policyholders were stolen, according to a Times-Tribune report.

The reports included names, addresses and Social Security numbers of policyholders who were employees of Penn Foster, a provider of accredited distance education.

A business associate of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, which administers health plans offered by First Priority Life Insurance, took home paper copies of the reports and a laptop containing similar information. The reports and laptop were stolen from the business associate's house on Sept. 9 after flooding in the area required evacuations. Blue Cross spokesman Anthony Matrisciano said there was no evidence that the data on the laptop had been accessed, according to the report.

The employees affected will receive one year of free credit monitoring.
