Could NASA's Gryphon-X be the answer to cybersecurity challenges?

NASA inspires images of ambitious exploration and steps never before taken by mankind, but the agency could also have a core role to play in the development of better and stronger cybersecurity strategy.

NASA has developed Gryphon-X, an agency-wide cybersecurity training center, according to a report from the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology. The Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley manages the center, which is tasked with overseeing and managing security risks across NASA's critical infrastructure.

The ICIT report suggests the physical Gryphon-X location would serve as a testing ground for devices running of off the Internet of Things. "Gryphon-X's facility would provide the physical laboratory space and the virtual environment necessary to test and secure these devices before they enter the market and attackers exploit them to cause physical harm, financial loss or to steal information about the owners," the report reads.

Additionally, NASA's cybersecurity brainchild could offer itself as an educational institute for people across multiple industries. Already, Gryphon-X is planning to develop a cybersecurity training program tailored for individuals with a STEM background.
