Two congressmen have formed a caucus focused on the development and advancement of policy regarding blockchain and related cryptocurrencies.

Reps. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) and Jard Polis (D-Colo.) formed the bipartisan group and plan to work with and educate other lawmakers on blockchain policies.

"It's vital for Americans, business and members of Congress to learn about blockchain technology so the U.S. can continue to secure its stance as the global leader of ingenuity," Rep. Polis said in a statement.

The statement announcing the caucus did not mention healthcare specifically, but healthcare leaders have been considering the uses of blockchain in their industry. Recently, Bruce Broussard, president and CEO of Louisville, Ky.-based Humana, said blockchain could be the next great innovation to come to healthcare.
