Colorado hospital launches chatbot service for ER patients

Greely-based North Colorado Medical Center implemented a chatbot service June 12 for patients visiting its emergency room, Journal-Advocate reports.

ER patients who opt into the service receive a text message on their smartphone, which allows them to begin interacting with the chatbot. When asked a question, such as when lab or imaging results will be available, the service pulls information from the patient's EHR to provide answers in real time.

Banner Health in Phoenix, NCMC's parent organization, began rolling out the chatbot service in May. The health system will implement the service at more Banner Health hospitals later this year, including Banner Fort Collins (Colo.) Medical Center and Loveland, Colo.-based McKee Medical Center.
