CMS to host 1st Blue Button 2.0 developer conference Aug. 13

Jessica Kim Cohen -

CMS will host its first-ever Blue Button 2.0 developer conference Aug. 13 at the General Services Administration national headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The conference aims to provide developers with a networking opportunity to support the development of software related to Blue Button 2.0, an initiative that enables Medicare patients to connect their claims data to select applications, services and research programs.

At the conference developers will be able to receive feedback from the CMS engineering team and learn about how healthcare organizations are integrating Blue Button 2.0 to improve outcomes for patients using Medicare claims data.

CMS also hopes the conference will advance the work of MyHealthEData, an initiative CMS Administrator Seema Verma announced in March to "make clear that patients deserve to … be able to share their data with whomever they want, making the patient the center of the healthcare system."

"This conference is the perfect venue for developers to network with each other and with leaders in the federal government to collaborate on ways to engage Medicare beneficiaries to make informed healthcare decisions," Ms. Verma said in a June 20 statement.
