CMS Paid Out More Than $37M in EHR Incentives

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has distributed approximately $37.6 million in incentive payments to meaningful users of electronic health records, according to a Government Health IT news report.

Currently, more than 25,000 eligible healthcare physicians and hospitals have registered in the EHR incentive program. The new estimate is almost double the number of registrants in January. The Office of the National Coordinator's meaningful use workgroup is currently working toward finalizing recommendations for a timeline and requirements for the second stage of meaningful use. The workgroup is expected to make its final recommendations to the Health IT Policy Committee in May.
