Cleveland Clinic has tapped Vocera, a clinical communication and workflow solutions provider, to streamline communications among care team members at its London hospital, according to a Dec. 4 news release.

Cleveland Clinic London, which is slated to open in 2021, will use Vocera's wearable and voice-controlled technology and smartphone application to connect physicians, nurses, consultants and other care team members. Vocera's platform will allow clinicians to communicate via voice, send and receive secure messages and manage alerts and alarms.

The Vocera technology integrates with more than 150 clinical and operational systems, including EHRs and ventilators. For its London facility, Cleveland Clinic plans to integrate the Vocera platform with its Epic EHR system as well as a real-time location system and nurse call solution. Cleveland Clinic hospitals in the U.S. and the Middle East already leverage Vocera's technologies.

"We have an opportunity to build one of the most impressive hospitals in the world by investing in future-state technologies that are ahead of the curve in UK healthcare," said Gareth Sherlock, CIO at Cleveland Clinic London, according to the news release. "It is critical to have intelligent, integrated solutions that can be part of a connected ecosystem of innovation, people, processes and research on day one, and also to have the flexibility to expand as the health system expands."

Cleveland Clinic London is expected to open in spring 2021. The 185-bed hospital will comprise eight operating rooms, a full imaging and neurological suite and will offer specialty services including heart and vascular, digestive diseases and neurosciences.
