IBM Research has released two Watson-related technologies that look to help physicians interact better with data and electronic medical records.
Watson is a computer system that responds to inquires posed in natural language and then learns from its responses — and was most prominently featured on game show "Jeopardy!" IBM has partnered with several healthcare organizations, including health insurer WellPoint and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, to work on data mining and evidence-based medicine systems.
The two newest Watson technologies from IBM, WatsonPaths and Watson EMR Assistant, were created in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
WatsonPaths is a technology that allows the Watson system to interact with medical experts so those experts understand how Watson arrives to a medical suggestion or decision. Waston EMR Assistant looks to help physicians find key information in an EMR system to improve care quality and efficiency.
IBM announced the new Watson projects in conjunction with the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit, which started yesterday and ends Wednesday.
