Ninety-five percent of CIOs indicated they expect their job to change due to the rise of digital technologies like artificial intelligence, according to a Gartner survey.
Gartner surveyed more than 3,000 CIOs from 98 countries about how they see their position changing. Survey results indicated the CIO role has shifted from a delivery executive to business executive, with an increasing focus on how to drive revenue.
Artificial intelligence ranked as the most "problematic" technology for respondents to implement, followed by digital security and Internet of Things. The most common "pain point" respondents cited for these technologies was the demand for individuals with skills related to the inventions, which are often difficult to find.
A focus on growth was the No. 1 CIO priority for 2018, as ranked by 26 percent of respondents. As digital technologies continue to drive revenue, business value and engagement, CIOs are emphasizing ways in which to deliver economies of scope and scale, according to Gartner.
