Children's National Health System reaches HIMSS Analytics Stage 6

Jessica Kim Cohen -

A Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society subsidiary recognized Washington, D.C.-based Children's National Health System for its EMR initiatives.

Children's National Health System earned Stage 6 on the eight-stage HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, which measures the degree to which a hospital or health system utilizes its EMR functions. Thirty-two percent of U.S. hospitals have reached this level, which represents the second-highest designation.

Children's National Health System credits the system's Bear Institute, a pediatric health IT division that supports care delivery, quality and safety through efforts like computerized provider order entry, electronic clinician documentation and clinical decision support, among initiatives.

"The HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 designation is a strong indication of our commitment to the proper utilization of health information technology to achieve the highest levels of patient safety and quality and care delivery," said Brian Jacobs, MD, CIO and executive vice president for the health system's center for pediatric informatics.
