Cerner among corporations receiving biggest government subsidiaries

Since 2000, the federal government has offered $68 billion in subsidies to businesses, and two-thirds of that money was directed toward large corporations. States, too, award large sums of subsidiaries and grants, and Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner is among the 30 corporations receiving the highest state and local subsidy dollars, according to The Washington Post.

According to the report, which analyzes a recent report from Good Jobs First, Cerner ranks No. 11 of the top 30 state/local subsidy recipients, receiving $1.8 billion in subsidies. It is the only dedicated health IT company on the list, though IBM is also listed as No. 18, receiving $1.1 billion in state/local subsidies.

Additionally, Cerner is the largest recipient of subsidy dollars in Missouri, receiving 16 different subsidies totaling approximately $1.65 billion.
