California Bill on EMR Track Changes Altered

Staff -
A proposed California law regarding track changes in patients' electronic medical records has been altered, as EMRs would not be required to show those changes, according to a California Watch report.

Previously, the bill required all healthcare providers to show all changes on an EMR when patients requested those records. Providers still must keep a log of all track changes with this bill, but patients won't see that history of changes now, the report said.

According to the report, California lawyers will be able to obtain the EMR track change information for patients.

The report also said the California Hospital Association is neutral toward this updated bill.
