BJC HealthCare, Wash U to launch Health Systems Innovation Lab

BJC Healthcare and Washington University School of Medicine, both based in St. Louis, partnered to create the Health Systems Innovation Lab.

Over the next 10 years, BJC Healthcare will provide $20 million to support the cross-disciplinary lab, whose goals include optimizing new technology and streamlining healthcare delivery to improve patient care.

Thomas M. Maddox, MD, national director of the Veterans Affairs Health System's Clinical Assessment, Reporting and Tracking Cardiac Quality Program, will lead the lab. Dr. Maddox has research expertise in cardiology, with a focus on healthcare systems that use real-time clinical data to shape clinical practice and research.

David H. Perlmutter, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of Washington University School of Medicine, and Steve Lipstein, CEO of BJC Healthcare, will co-chair the lab's 14-member governing board.
