BCBS to offer free identity protection for all members

Staff -

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association announced all Blue Cross Blue Shield companies will offer free identity protection services to members and dependents nationwide by Jan. 1, 2016.

The new opt-in service from the health plan will include credit monitoring, fraud detection and fraud resolution support for its 106 million members.

The new offerings are largely in response to the increasing risk and rate of cyberattacks that compromise members' protected health information.

"While we make every effort to ensure that all personal information maintained by us is secure and safe, in an increasingly digital world, cyber attacks are now a core threat to every business and government entity. This is one of the many steps we are taking to protect our members," said Andrew Dreyfus, president and CEO of BCBS Massachusetts, in a Boston Business Journal report.
