BCBS MA, American Well launch telemedicine pilot

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has partnered with American Well for its new telemedicine program called WellConnection.

The two-year pilot will utilize physicians from Emerson Physician Hospital Organization and Lowell General Physician Hospital Organization, two physician groups that are part of Blue Cross' Alternative Quality Contract. Dedicated Blue Cross nurse care managers will also provide care.

"The value of telemedicine will be fully realized when physician, patient and health plan goals are aligned — which is why we are offering this program with select physicians in our Alternative Quality Contract," said Gregory LeGrow, director of network innovation at BCBS MA. "These healthcare providers are already making great strides in this area to improve patient care outcomes."
