Baltimore IT director's $250k salary surpasses police chief, mayor

Julie Spitzer -

With a $250,000 salary, Baltimore's new CIO and chief digital officer Frank Johnson is among the highest-paid city employee, reports The Baltimore Sun.

Mr. Johnson's salary surpasses that of the mayor's ($173,000), police commissioner's ($200,000 last year) and health commissioner's ($204,000 last year). His salary is also more than the IT chiefs in New York City ($220,000 last year) and Los Angeles ($236,000 last year).

The IT boss, who began his role in September, will work to modernize the city's technology systems, which currently rely on inflexible, four-decade-old mainframe technology.
