Apple shipped 46.2M wearables in 2018

The wearable-device market recorded a big fourth quarter of gains, according to an International Data Corp. report.   

The global wearable-device market grew 31.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to the same period a year prior, fueled by releases around the holidays and bundled smartphone-wearable packages. Five updates on the companies leading the market:

  • Apple led the way, shipping 46.2 million wearable devices in 2018 and 16.2 million in the fourth quarter.
  • Chinese brand Xiaomi shipped 23.3 million devices in 2018.
  • Fitbit shipped 13.8 million devices in 2018, and while shipments declined 10 percent year over year, its fourth quarter was positive.
  • Huawei shipped 11.3 million devices in 2018 and 5.7 million in the fourth quarter. Of the top five wearables companies, it experienced the most year-over-year growth at 147.3 percent.
  • Samsung shipped 10.7 million wearable devices in 2018, including 4 million in the last quarter.
