Apple reportedly poaches Columbia University Medical Center cardiologist

Mackenzie Garrity -

Apple has hired New York City-based Columbia University Medical Center cardiologist David Tsay, MD, a person familiar with the matter confirmed to CNBC after Dr. Tsay updated his LinkedIn account to indicate he had joined Apple.

Dr. Tsay will work closely with other physicians who have been hired by Apple, including obstetricians, a pediatric endocrinologist and multiple primary care physicians. A spokesperson from Apple declined to comment to CNBC.

With his experience as an associate chief transformation officer, Dr. Tsay will help Apple as the company continues to focus on heart health, reports CNBC. The most recent version of the Apple Watch features capabilities to track irregular heart rates as well as potential abnormalities in a user's heart rhythm.

This is not the first cardiologist Apple has lured to its medical team. The company hired Alexis Beatty, MD, who had been practicing at Seattle-based University of Washington.
