Apple, Fitbit move further apart

Staff -

Apple reportedly has plans to pull Fitbit fitness trackers from its shelves, according to a report in re/code.

The report surfaces as Apple gears up to launch its own wearable, Apple Watch, in 2015. It also follows Fitbit's announcement that the popular fitness tracker will not be integrating with HealthKit or iOS anytime soon.

"We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit," according to a comment on the company's website. "It is an interesting new platform and we will watch as it matures, looking for opportunities to improve the Fitbit experience. At the moment, we're working on other exciting projects that we think will be valuable to users."

According to NPD Group, in 2013 about two-thirds of all fitness trackers sold in the U.S. were Fitbits. The devices were also mentioned by name during Apple's original introduction of the HealthKit platform in June, according to Mashable.
