Apple Considering Health, Fitness Platform

Staff -

A mobile health executive, citing a meeting with an Apple official, has told Reuters Apple is exploring the development of an App Store-like platform specifically for health and fitness devices.

The centralized tracking platform would offer apps to integrate with Apple wearable health devices, allowing for more comprehensive health monitoring, according to the report.

There have long been rumors the much-hyped iWatch will feature monitoring capabilities. However, Apple's recent hiring of a rash of biosensing experts and meetings with Food and Drug Administration officials to discuss medical apps suggest Apple's plans go beyond the iWatch, according to the report.
