American Association of Diabetes Educators and WellDoc, a digital health company, are collaborating to incorporate the association's diabetes education curriculum into BlueStar.

BlueStar, an FDA-cleared digital therapeutic platform, helps adults living with type 2 diabetes self-manage their condition. The organizations hope to facilitate patients' self-management through the integration of AADE's curriculum, which focuses on seven lifestyle behaviors: healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, reducing risks and healthy coping.

"Digital health is a strong complement to in-person care and education provided by diabetes educators," said Charles MacFarlane, CEO of AADE. "Integrating our curriculum into the BlueStar platform is an important strategic decision for AADE and will benefit our members and people with type 2 diabetes in this evolving healthcare environment."

This partnership marks AADE's first attempt to translate its diabetes self-management education curriculum into a consumer-focused digital format. Moving forward, AADE and WellDoc plan to continue to develop new digital health strategies.
