Amazon's EHR-mining tool adds ontology linking feature & 8 other health IT notes

Here's the latest roundup of stories about health IT companies, including Apple, Cerner and Google.

1. Change Healthcare announced on Dec. 17 that Cerner has integrated the data analytics firm's clinical decision support solutions with its EHR and acute case management software.

2. Medtronic has completed its acquisition of Klue, a company developing behavior-tracking software to track food consumption.

3. Chicago-based Rush University System for Health is offering patients a more convenient way to access their information remotely through its partnership with Mytonomy.

4. Data extracted from Amazon Comprehend Medical, a software that mines patient health records, can now be linked to select medical ontologies.

5. Though Facebook's vice president of artificial intelligence predicted researchers attempting to scale AI solutions will soon "hit the wall," the head of Google's AI research group recently countered with many ways to get through, over and around that wall.

6. Anthem plans to give its more than 40 million members more control over their medical records through blockchain solutions.

7. Cerner's board of directors approved an amendment to its stock repurchase program on Dec. 13 that authorized the repurchase of up to $1.7 billion of the Kansas City, Mo.-based EHR vendor's common stock.

8. Apple is working with Color, a genetic testing company, to provide its employees with free genetic screenings for diseases in the tech giant's onsite health clinics.

9. An artificial intelligence system that tracks chronic disease treatment will soon be available to all Cigna and Express Scripts employer clients.
