Amazon's voice command-based assistant Alexa is moving into the healthcare space through a new partnership with Boston Children's Hospital.

The Innovation & Digital Health Accelerator team at Boston Children's launched the KidsMD capability for Alexa. Parents with Alexa-enabled devices, such as Amazon Echo and Amazon Fire, can now ask Alexa about common pediatric symptoms, such as fever or rash.

KidsMD can offer support by tapping into cloud-based content created by physicians at Boston Children's.

"We eventually intend to enable Alexa to give broader kinds of healthcare information via KidsMD, but we're starting with symptoms that are of common concern to parents," said John Brownstein, PhD, Boston Children's chief innovation officer.
