AMA voices support for ONC's Health IT Certification Program

Jessica Kim Cohen -

The American Medical Association stands in support of the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology's final rule on the Health IT Certification Program.

The final rule focuses on increased accountability, oversight and transparency for certified health IT products. "These rules will promote health IT developers' accountability for the performance, reliability, and safety of certified health IT," said Steven J. Stack, MD, immediate past president of the AMA.

Moving forward, AMA encourages ONC to adhere to key principles, including transparency, decreasing risk to patient safety and data security and the use of corrective action plans when necessary, rather than termination of health IT certification.
