AMA releases online tools to help physicians with MACRA

Staff -

Three new resources from the American Medical Association seek to help providers navigate changing payment and delivery models.

"MACRA represents the most significant change to Medicare's physician payment system in a generation, and the AMA is working to help physicians navigate this change and make sure they are prepared for it," Andrew Gurman, MD, AMA president, said in a statement.

One of the tools is a payment model evaluator, which offers physicians initial assessments of how MACRA might affect their practices and suggests which payment model is best for them. The evaluator will also provide educational and actionable resources to physicians and their practices based off the given assessment.

The AMA STEPS Forward resource is a collection of tools, strategies and modules, each focused on a specific element of MACRA. Modules are grouped thematically, and themes include patient care, workflow and process, professional well-being, and technology and finance. Providers can work through the modules to improve practice efficiency. There are 42 total modules.

Finally, the AMA launched a podcast called "Inside Medicare's New Payment System." There are five episodes, which seek to inform physicians on upcoming Medicare changes. AMA staff experts, CMS administrators and more are featured on the podcast.
