AliveCor CEO — a former Google exec — steps down

Julie Spitzer -

Vic Gundotra is stepping down from his post as CEO of AliveCor, a digital health company best known for its electrocardiogram-equipped watch band Kardia, CNBC reports.

Mr. Gundotra said he's resigning for personal reasons. Although Mr. Gundotra did not expand on his reasons, he has been public about the fact his wife is battling cancer, according to CNBC.

Mr. Gundotra joined AliveCor after serving as a senior vice president at Google, where he was responsible for the company's social network Google+.

While many digital health experts questioned whether the Apple Watch Series 4 — which also features an EKG — would pose a threat to AliveCor's product, the company reported record sales in December. In fact, Mr. Gundotra told CNBC December was the company's "best month and best quarter" yet.

The company is currently developing a bloodless test to diagnose high potassium levels.
