11,000 health IT stakeholders were invited to participate in the survey and 219 responded. The survey was conducted from Feb. 7-22.
Significant findings of the survey are:
• Ninety-eight percent of respondents reported that the ability to improve care coordination was the most effective driver of HIE.
• Ninety-six percent of respondents reported that cost was the most influential barrier to HIE.
• Ninety-six percent of respondents reported that increasing interoperability is the most important HIE governance goal.
• Sixty-seven percent of respondents reported that establishing specific technical platforms and requirements is the best way in which the ONC can facilitate governance of HIE.
