Healthcare organizations are taking significant steps to incorporate digital patient engagement tools into care delivery, according to a survey from Spyglass Consulting Group.

The survey polled 100 healthcare professionals working in hospital-based environments. Surveyors conducted interviews over a three-month period starting in January 2017.

Here are four report findings:

1. Eighty-nine percent of respondents noted their hospitals have made significant investments in digital patient engagement tools.

2. Future investments focus on integrating engagement tools with evidence-based pathways and care management programs.

3. Around 49 percent of respondents said their organizations are exploring collaboration opportunities with CMS and other third-party payers to subsidize patient engagement initiatives.

4. Challenges to deployment of patient engagement tools include low end-user adoption, poorly defined requirements and lack of evidence.
