80% of Consumers Open to Healthcare Interactions on Smartphones

Staff -

The majority of consumers — 80 percent — would like the option of interacting with healthcare providers via smartphones, according to a survey by FICO, a predictive analytics and decision management software company.

Such healthcare providers include payers, hospitals, pharmacies, mail-order drug companies and clinics.

Additionally, 76 percent of respondents said they would like to receive alerts reminding them of medical appointments, and 69 percent said they would like alerts reminding them to make appointments or take their medication.

"The way healthcare organizations communicate with people is changing, as individuals become more and more sophisticated about using information technology to make health-related decisions," said Stuart Wells, FICO's chief product and technology officer, in a news release. "People are especially interested in mobile services that can help them manage their personal health and shop for healthcare services. The leading healthcare providers are increasingly turning to mobile technologies to meet this demand, and to engage frequently and proactively with consumers."

The survey collected answers from 2,239 adult smartphone users from 14 countries.
