As cybersecurity increasingly becomes a mounting issue in the world of technology, a new survey reveals the majority of companies aren't prepared for a data breach, according to CSOonline.com.

For the survey, which is from KPMG and British Telecom, researchers gathered responses from 100 CIOs, CSIOs and other IT executives at Fortune 500 companies in the U.S., Australia, the U.K., Singapore and India.

Here are five things to know from the survey, according to CSOonline.com.

2. Fifty-one percent of surveyed companies said they didn't have a plan to deal with cyber blackmail such as ransomware.

3. Just 23 percent of organizations indicated they had proper cyberinsurance.

4. Ninety-seven percent of companies said they've been victim to a cyber attack.

5. Approximately 55 percent of organizations noted they've noticed an increase in cyber attacks.
