Andrea Park -

MassChallenge, the Boston-based startup accelerator, announced on July 10 the first cohort of its Texas outpost's Houston-based program, which includes seven companies developing new technologies for use in healthcare.

The 26 startups chosen to begin the accelerator program later this month will spend several weeks working with local partners such as Reliant, Southwest Airlines and WeWork. They will also receive mentorship from industry experts around the world, complimentary office space and additional guidance as they continue to develop their companies.

Here are the seven health tech companies chosen to join MassChallenge's inaugural Houston cohort, and the devices and software they are developing:

1. Animatus Biosciences (Texas): a modified mRNA platform that aids in the development of unique regenerative therapeutics.

2. DoBrain (South Korea): an app that detects and diagnoses developmental delays based on neuropsychological markers.

3. Door Space (Texas): a cloud-based platform that automates professional credit management and verification for providers.

4. NeuroRescue (Ohio): a wearable device to improve the standard of care in the treatment of stroke, brain injury and cardiac arrest.

5. Noleus Technologies (Texas): a device that reduces post-op ileus and hospital days and accelerates abdominal surgery recovery.

6. ORDRS (Texas): a platform that streamlines the physician approval process for direct-to-consumer lab testing companies.

7. RehabMaker (California): exercise equipment that attaches to wheelchairs to allow rehab patients to move their legs.
