60% of patients would share fitness data with physicians to improve care, Deloitte finds

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Forty-two percent of patients use technology tools — such as apps, monitors or wearables — to measure their fitness and health goals, up from 17 percent five years ago, according to a Deloitte report.

The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions surveyed 4,530 U.S. adults from February to March for its poll on trends in healthcare consumer engagement. The survey was designed to be representative of the U.S. population in terms of age, gender, race, ethnicity, income, geography and insurance source.

Here are the five institutions respondents cited when asked who they were willing to share their personal health and fitness data with:

1. Physicians, to help them provide better care: 60 percent

2. Family, if recovering from injuries sustained during a fall or other health emergency: 53 percent

2. Emergency services, if experiencing a sudden emergency situation: 53 percent

4. Device developer, anonymously, to contribute to an improved product or program: 40 percent

5. Healthcare research organization, anonymously, to contribute to future studies: 39 percent
